One Brides Beauty Nightmare…

Every brides wants to look her absolute best on her wedding day for her princess charming. Looking like you normally do just doesn’t cut it when your a Bride, as everyone knows the day is all about the Bride, you will be centre of everyone's attention.  So a little professional non-invasive assistance is considered completely acceptable without being obsessively vain!  Especially when you mention that You are to soon be THE BRIDE.

Some Brides try it all…extreme diets, regular facials, skin peels, teeth whiting, body scrubs, fake tans, micro-dermabrasion, Botox injections, to name a few, and for some Bride even a day’s pampering while aspiring to be the ultimate supreme version of themselves, things can go horribly wrong.

This is a true story of one of my Brides, pre wedding beauty nightmares. Here’s Brenda’s story….

It’s my 40th birthday and 1 week until my wedding. My MOH (matron of honour) thought it would be nice to have a pamper day. We used a voucher from SPREETS which include a massage, facial and skin analysis.

We arrived to the spa and were so excited, we change into our robes, had a green tea while are feet were soaking in a foot spa and having some laughs about the week ahead and the wedding day in 7 more sleeps.

We were then separated into separate rooms for the rest of the treatments, firstly a massage that felt more like a torture session, then the beautician moved onto the skin analysis, she started with a full scrub of back, shoulders, neck and face which was very nice. I started to relax which is what I thought the whole day was going to be about. Then I had a mask which stayed on for a couple of minutes while the lady left me in the room by myself, when she came back she took off the mask, she started with the dermabrasion (which was part of the package) after that she asked if I would like a simple peel that all brides have before their wedding to get rid of the blemishes. She did say it would tingle on my skin and it would only be on for 2 minutes, she was right it did tingle but that was what i expecting. After that she washed it off and continued with the facial which was very soothing and felt amazing as I fell asleep.

After our treatments we decided to go and have lunch, while walking around the shops my face started tingling like I had the peel on again, I washed my face with cold water but that is when it all went bad, my face started breaking out into red lumps, I got on telephone straight away to where we had the treatment and they advised that it may be a reaction and it would calm down with some cold packs. So home MOH and I went thinking that this would all be ok and the end of a beautiful day. But that is DEFNATELEY where the story didn’t end.

As you can see from the pics my face got worse over the next 24 hours, Monday morning I was back at the spa at 8.00am to see what they were going to do, the look on their face was of shock as they said they had never seen a reaction like that before. I spent the next week back at the spa twice a day spending 15 minutes each time under a Omni Light as $250.00 per session (that I wasn’t paying for) my skin final settled in time for the wedding. I still have 3 small scars on my face from the damage of the reaction to the peel.

Brenda’s skin did settle in time for me to do her wedding makeover, and as you can see from her wedding photos with her MOH, (photos by Cherie Davies Photography) she looked beautiful and if you didn’t know, you couldn’t tell that she had lived every brides worst beauty nightmare!!

The best pre-wedding beauty advice I can give all brides is the good old fashion advice that’s over hundreds of years old….drink plenty of water AND get lots of sleep prior to your wedding.  Let us professional make you the most glamorous version of You on the your wedding day!   That’s also why it is definitely worth spending extra money for professionals such as hair, makeup and photographers, we know how to make brides GLAMOUROUS!!

Finally I can’t not stress enough, the moral of Brenda’s story which is for Brides NOT to try any new beauty treatments/pampering the week of your wedding, when you do your pre-wedding beauty, please do it much earlier than the week of your wedding!! This also includes your fake tans – the stories I could tell about tanning disasters will have to wait for another day!

Until next time…Kelly Weaver - Bridal Hair & Makeup
