The following are Frequently Asked Questions by Brides.....
Q: How many years have you been in business?
I’ve been hairdressing for over 20 years now & owned my own businesses for most of those 20 years. As a hairdresser I have always specialised in wedding hair, styling & makeup. I’ve been doing hair styling & makeup artistry as my full time business for the last 6 years.
Q: How far ahead do I need to book?
To avoid disappointment, I suggest booking as soon as you have your wedding date. I am not an agency which means I do ALL of my own styling, once I have my 2 weddings booked for a Saturday then I’m booked out!
Q: What do I need to do to book you?
Firstly check if I’m available on your chosen day – then if I available I require a $110 non-refundable deposit (which comes off the days!) this can be done through direct deposit or money order. Once I have received this money with your booking you are then booked in! (Booking form is on line – www.bridalhair.com.au)
Q: Which areas do you travel to?
I pretty much travel most of South East Queensland; Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Northern Gold Coast, Mt Tamborine – If your booking is made for mid-week or if booked early enough I am happy to travel further however there is a surcharge for extreme travel distances!
Q: What are your PRICES?
Please refer to the “terms & prices” page on the web site …www.bridalhair.com.au
Q: Do you only do hair or make up, as well?
Yes, I do, but for the best possible service for my brides, with regards to time management I do have highly qualified independent makeup artists that I recommend. I do not profit from these recommendations.
Q: Do you come to the hotel?
Yes, I do, in fact I’ll travel to pretty much anywhere you are getting ready, home, hotel, or apartment. If there are fees associated with parking these are passed on to the bride.
Q: Do you only do weddings?
No, I do formals, special occasion, boudoir, glamour, photographic, fashion, and all other hair styling & makeup. I also specialize in mobile micro bead hair extensions.
Q: Do I need a Trial?
Yes, it is preferred that Brides have trials prior to their wedding day, this just irons out any uncertainty that they may have on styles & it helps the wedding day run smoothly.
Q: When do I book my Trial hair and Make up?
I recommend your trial to be booked around 3 months prior to your wedding; your hair is closer to how it will actually be. If you have troubled hair or skin – I’d have a trial sooner so we can make a plan so your hair & skin is the best possible condition for your wedding. I normally do my hair trials from a salon at Forest Lake on a Wednesday evening.
Q: Does everyone need a trial – bridesmaid too?
No, It’s important for the Bride to have a trial but everyone else can choose whether they would like one or not. If someone has problem skin or hair, then maybe for there own piece of mind have a trial. But generally no, although your maids and/or mum are welcome to come along at your trial so we can have a chat about what would suit them and what they would like on the day.
Q: Should I wash my hair before my trail?
Not on the day – wash your hair the night before (as you would leading up to your wedding day)
Q : How should I prepare for my Hair trial?
Wash your hair the day before the trial and apply with mousse. Just as you would on your wedding day, if you have photos of the look you want, be sure to share them with me. It also helps for me to get a clear picture of your vision if I have a photo of your wedding gown. If you have your veil or head piece bring them along – if you don’t that’s ok too!
Q : How should I prepare for my Makeup trial?
Turn up as you are – our makeup artist will look after your face. I do suggest that you bring lots of photos of makeup styles that you like or even dislike, a colour swatch of your bridesmaids gowns & if possible your gown colour too. One thing that I would also highly recommend is to wear a top similar colour to your gown – you won’t get a correct picture of your wedding make over if you want natural makeup yet you’re wearing a bright Fluor top.
Q: How will you manage to do everyone?
I have over 20 years experience and on average I do 125 bridal parties each year, so I have plenty of practice & expertise in making brides, bridesmaids and mums look gorgeous for their special day. I can easily manage 2 weddings in one day without any problems.
Q: How do you pick which bride gets done first?
This is all related back to the time photographers want you ready by. I normally do the bride that needs to be ready first, first! I normally start at 7ish then I do the 2nd wedding party after that! BRIDES DO NOT GET A CHOICE IN THE TIME I ARRIVE!!
Q: Do I have my Hair or Make up done first?
This depends on the style chosen & the artists working on your makeover. It is nothing for you to worry about – we will take care of you & we have your best interest in mind – so you will look perfect!
Q: Does the make up last long?
We are professionals and we wouldn’t be still in business if our makeup didn’t last all day & late into the night – you will need a touch up lippy & in the extreme heat some blotting papers – but we talk discuss all this at your trial.
Q: What should I prepare for touch ups for my wedding day?
Touch up lip stick & Blotting paper for your T-Zone area.
Q: My mum wants to get her hair and make up done, too. Is there a different price for mothers?
While I charge Brides & bridesmaids the same hair price, I do charge less for mum’s blowdrys –if mum has longer hair & wants an up do then it’s the same pricing as the brides & bridesmaids.
With regards to mum’s makeup – it is the same price as the brides
Q: I’ve been told it’s a good idea to use extensions, is this true?
It depends on what your hair is like and the look you are going for. If you want to achieve long locks instantaneously then I can discuss your options with you, firstly there are clip on hair pieces or the micro bead hair extensions. To discuss pricing & more, contact me at Kelly@bridalhair.com.au
Q: What happens if you are ill?
In the event that I may be Ill on your wedding day, I would still be there for you as I have never let anyone down. I realise it's the most important day of your life and understand that if I did to not turn up, then the bride would never forgive me for the rest of her life. Therefore I make it my business to be there for you. The absolute worse case scenario is that my sister, who is also a professional stylist, would take my place.
Q: What do I do if I need to cancel?
As my services are in high demand, I need to be informed 3 months prior to the wedding. If you wish to cancel more than 3 months before a 50% charge will be incurred. If you cancel outside of the 3month period then you will have to pay 100% of your wedding booking.
Q: For what occasions would you recommend Airbrushed Makeup?
Airbrushed makeup is recommended for any photographic work, as it is a long wearing application lasting up to 12 hours, is waterproof and gives an incredibly flawless appearance.
Q: Do you work alone?
Yes & no…. I have a team of highly qualified makeup artist I work along side, but I do pretty much all the hairdressing myself– I do have a ‘bobby-pin’ passer sometimes.
Q: Do I wash my hair on the day of the wedding?
NO. Most defiantly not!! Your hair will need to be as clean as possible so I suggest that you wash your hair either the night before or the morning of the wedding. Your hair should have very little product in it and NO Straightening Irons are too be used. This also applies to the trial.
Q: Do you accept cheques?
No. Cash on the day or money order or direct deposit prior.
Q: Where do I begin choosing a bridal hairstyle-I haven’t got a clue?
Websites, magazines, anywhere that has photos of brides. My bridalhair.com.au – has over 1000 photos of past brides & photos of trials this will be a good place to start your search. But don’t panic if you don’t find anything you like – we’ll talk about it at your trial & together we’ll come up with the perfect look for you!
Q: I know what style I would like but I don’t think I have enough hair?
Great! Then we discuss hair extension options – clip on pieces or semi permanent micro bead extensions.
Q: What should I do on the morning before you arrive?
Make sure all your bridal party arrive on time!!! Have a light breaky, brush your teeth, have a high chair for the makeup artist, bench space & a power point for the hair stylist!
Q: Do you know how to work with different hair types?
Most definitely, I’ve been doing this for years & there’s not a lot I haven’t seen, from working with the finest and most limp hair, to the frizziest and most coarse hair, to Islander braids & dreadlocks – I’ve worked with it all.
Q: How long do you take to do hair and make up per person?
On average for hair alone, 30 minutes per person, plus an extra half hour; Traditional Makeup takes around the same time, however airbrushing takes a little longer.
